Popcaan Signed to Drake's OVO Sound

Drake has finally signed Popcaan to OVO Sound.

For years there have been talks of Popcaan joining Drake‘s label OVO Sound, but nothing was never solidified. The two artists have been close friends for years with both of them even getting tattoos to rep their respective camps. Poppy got himself an OVO tat, and Drizzy got himself an Unruly tat. Jamaicans have pretty much adopted Drizzy because of his love for the culture.

During his performance at the dancehall star’s annual Unruly Fest on Saturday night in St. Thomas, Drake announced that he had made Popcaan an official OVO Sound member. “This is something we’ve been working on for a very long time, and I just wanna let everyone know that finally, officially 2019, Popcaan a sign to OVO label,” Drake told the massive crowd at Lyssons Beach in St. Thomas.

Popcaan will now join artists like PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, Roy Woods, dvsn, Plaza, and Baka Not Nice, who calls OVO Sound their home. In addition to these well-known names, OVO also has producers like Noah ’40’ Shebib, Boi-1da, T-Minus, Mike Zombie, and Nineteen85.

Drake is a co-founder of OVO Sound, a label based in Canada that he founded with producer Noah ’40’ Shebib and Oliver El-Khatib in 2012. Drake and his team have since transformed OVO from being just a record label to a full-fledged entertainment brand which includes merchandise like their own OVO Jordans.

[UPDATE] Tommy Lee Lottery Scam - DEEJAY EXONERANTED

Tommy Lee Sparta is now a free man after prosecutors dropped his lottery scam case.

Tommy Lee Sparta, born Leroy Russell, is now breathing a sigh of relief after his lottery scam case was dismissed. His co-defendant O’Brian Smith also saw the charges against him dropped. In 2014, the pair were jointly charged for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions Special Provisions) Act.

“This case has been a dark cloud over Tommy Lee’s head for years, and now he can put it behind him,” a rep for the deejay told Urban Islandz. “For years the police force has been targeting the artist with all types of crimes that he is not guilty of. This is just another clear sign that they are just trying to fabricate a case against him.”

On Wednesday, the court got a chance to view the controversial laptop at the heart of the police investigation. A senior police officer testified in court that he found thousands of files on HP Pavilion laptop in a folder with Tommy Lee Sparta’s name.

Detective Corporal Campbell told the court that the files contain detail information about United States Citizens, as well as, letters sent to two elderly persons informing them that they won two Mercedes-Benz and millions of dollars.

Tommy Lee Sparta pleaded not guilty to the charges and his attorney Ernest Smith submitted a no case submission to the courts after yesterday’s hearing.

“In an effort to prove its case, the prosecution has placed its life on the contents of a laptop and external hard drive,” Smith said. “My Lady, in the first instance, the prosecution must prove that on the gadgets on which they rely, were in the sole possession of either or both accused, individually or jointly.”

Tommy Lee Sparta was back in court last week for his ongoing lottery scam case.

The Mobay deejay is facing years in prison if found guilty of charges including breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions Special Provisions) Act. His ongoing case resumed last week Wednesday in the Home Circuit Court in Kingston where a police forensic expert testified in court in support of the DPP case against Tommy Lee Sparta. Detective Corporal Campbell told the court that he discovered files on a laptop belonging to the dancehall star which contained personal information about United States nationals.

Campbell noted that he found a partition on the computer’s external hard drive with the identity of persons living in New York, California, Florida, Virginia, and Connecticut. The hard drive contained 1,001 records, and another 5,500 records were found on the laptop. Campbell says the area codes of the phone numbers on the files helped him determine the location of the individuals.

“I found a partition on the hard drive called ‘Tommy Lee.’ I observed two files in the trash folder,” DC Campbell said.

Tommy Lee Sparta, whose real name is Leroy Russell, and three other persons were arrested in February of 2014 and charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provisions) Act, 2013. Charges against two of the men were later dropped after cops could not provide sufficient evidence linking them to the crime.

Tommy Lee has maintained his innocence saying that he makes his money as an established dancehall artist. A rep for the Guzu Musiq deejay told Urban Islandz that he is confident that he will be vindicated when the trial concludes. Sparta also blamed his legal troubles for his inability to travel overseas to tour and make money. The trial will resume on December 12 following an adjournment on Monday.

REDWAY, CA - High Times Productions, the event-management team for High Times Media in partnership with the Mateel Community Center, announced new lineup additions for this year’s iconic Reggae on the River festival which will be held on August 3-5, 2018 in Piercy, CA (near Garberville in Southern Humboldt County) and includes music and camping.

Reggae legends Israel Vibration will join Iration, Mavado, Morgan Heritage, Busy Signal, The Original Wailers, Arrested Development, Don Carlos, Bambaata Marley, Cham, Wailing Souls, and Hempress Sativa, who will perform across the three-day gathering. More artists are yet to be announced.

General Admission, VIP, and camping passes are on sale via the eggae on the River websit.

Through a strategic partnership announced earlier this year, High Times has joined forces with the Mateel Community Center to elevate this cultural landmark to new heights. Providing both resources and direction, the cannabis icon will implement the best practices it has amassed through its years of successful event production to create a world-class experience for Reggae fans and the surrounding community.

“High Times is pleased to announce the inclusion of Iration, Mavado and Busy Signal as headliners of this legendary event,” said Adam Levin, CEO of High Times Media. He mentioned earlier, “This event is a cornerstone of the Northern California community, and High Times could not be more excited to help present this year’s festivities. This year’s show will be bigger and better than ever!”

The festival was birthed in 1984 as a fundraiser for the Mateel Community Center in Redway and held on land owned by the Arthur family. Originally, it was a one-day musical event to raise money to replace Mateel’s hall, which had been destroyed in a fire. This developing partnership with High Times has provided the center with resources to continue growing and expanding the festival’s reach.

High Times has assumed all responsibility for the upcoming festival’s talent lineup, marketing, and monetization efforts. The brand is also providing the Mateel Community Center with expertise from its long and successful production history, ensuring that the festival is on par with what the industry has come to expect from its premier brand.

High Times produces a series of Cannabis Cup events annually as well as several other lifestyle and music events tied to High Times magazine, the oldest and best-known brand in the business of legalized marijuana. Given their production chops, knowledge of the landscape, and successful history in both events and media, High Times was the perfect partner for the Mateel Community Center. “Reggae on the River marks an important step for High Times Production to manage a broader music event not explicitly tied to the legal cannabis industry,” Levin said.
