Green Lion Crew meets Addis Pablo and Friends Uptown
The music of Augustus Pablo is timeless and has become a part of the foundation of what we call Roots Reggae today. He is almost solely responsible for the unique use of the melodica as a major leading instrument in dub music. The Cassava Piece Riddim set its mark in history as one of his most well loved versions having multiple popular releases over the years. This included collaborations with Jacob Miller as well as his classic album with King Tubby “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown” in 1976. Fast forward to 2021 and American Producers Green Lion Crew have teamed up with his son Addis Pablo to recreate this mystic riddim with a modern twist. A deep solid bassline, springy reverb keyboard chops, a heavy fat one drop drum pattern and the mystical melodies of the melodica combine together for a divine take on this foundation classic. The album which is called Green Lion Crew meets Addis Pablo & Friends Uptown features vocalists Micah Shemaiah (Jamaica), Medisun (Boston), Mr Williamz (London), Lavosti (Kenya) , and Jah Bami (Trinidad & Tobago). It also includes 3 heavy spacey dub versions from Suns Of Dub, Green Lion Crew, and Addis Pablo. Reggaeville premiered the official video for the instrumental version which was shot on Strawberry Hill in Irish Town, Kingston Jamaica. David Rodigan is showing support on BBC and had this to say about the project:
"You were treading on very thin ground re-making ‘Cassava Piece’ as it is my all time favourite track by Augustus but I must say that you have done it justice both rhythmically and sonically. Congratulations.."
